Attorney: Channing M. Hall, III

Channing M. Hall, IIIA Williamsburg native and third-generation lawyer, Channing M. Hall, III, received his preparatory training at Walsingham Academy, his bachelor's degree at Washington and Lee University, and his legal education at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of the College of William and Mary.

After completing his post jurisdoctoral degree in taxation at the William and Mary Law School, and working briefly for the Senate of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Mr. Hall served as an Attorney-Advisor to the Honorable Lawrence J. Whalen, Judge of the United States Tax Court, in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Hall returned home to Williamsburg in 1990, and established the law offices of Channing M. Hall, III. In 1994, he co-founded the law firm of Hale & Hall, P.L.L.C., which grew to seven attorneys. He was co-managing partner of that firm until 2000, when he formed Channing M. Hall, III, P.L.L.C.

Mr. Hall's professional affiliations include the Williamsburg Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, and the Virginia State Bar. Additionally, Mr. Hall has previously served as a Commissioner in Chancery for the Circuit Courts for the County of New Kent and the County of Charles City.

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Hall has been a principal in a private equity investment venture, and is currently a partner in various real estate investment companies, one of which owns and operates Esquire-III Self-Storage in Williamsburg.

Mr. Hall served as Vice-Mayor of the City of Williamsburg from July, 1998, to July, 2002, and was a member of the Williamsburg City Council from July, 1994, to July, 2002.

Mr. Hall currently serves as a Trustee of Bruton Parish Church, as a member of the City of Williamsburg's Quarterpath Community Development Authority (Chairman), as President of the Pulaski Club, and on the Boards of Directors of The Bruton Parish Church Foundation, Inc. (President and past Secretary), the Doctors' Hospital of Williamsburg, Middleburg Financial Corporation (Chairman, Williamsburg Regional Board), and the Peninsula Chapter of the Washington and Lee University Alumni Association (past President).

Mr. Hall's other past civic activities include, among others: the Board of Directors of Williamsburg Landing, Inc.; the Board of Directors of the Virginia Museum of Natural History Foundation; the Vestry of Bruton Parish Church; the Bruton Parish Church Rector Seach Committee; the Board of Directors of the Williamsburg Music Association, Inc. (the Williamsburg Symphonia); the Advisory Board of Walsingham Academy; the Board of Directors of the William and Mary Law School Association (alumni organization), of which he served as President, Vice-President, Vice-President for Student Activities, and Treasurer, and where he started the "Co-Counsel" mentor program for practicing attorneys to advise students, the Thurgood Marshall Award, and the Oliver Hill Scholarship; the City of Williamsburg Finance and Audit Committee; Secretary of the Williamsburg Bar Association; the Leadership Historic Triangle Program; the Board of Trustees of the Leadership Historic Triangle Program; the Board of Directors of Avalon, a Center for Women and Children, the local battered women's shelter; a member of City of Williamsburg Local Emergency Planning Committee; and Coach in the Tidewater Youth Lacrosse League. Mr. Hall has also helped a number of community organizations raise funds for charitable causes, including the Historic Triangle Community Services Center, where he was Chairman of the Attorney's Division, the Williamsburg YMCA, Bruton Parish Church, and the United Way of Williamsburg, where he was Chairman of the Attorney Section and then the Professional Division.

Mr. Hall has been recognized for his leadership by the Prentis Award of the College of William and Mary (for distinguished service to the College and the Williamsburg community), the Distinguished Service Award of the Society of the Alumni of the College of William and Mary, the Distinguished Service Award of the Williamsburg Jaycees, the Outstanding Young Virginian Award of the Virginia State Jaycees, and the Korczowski Fuller Award of the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg (for exceptional civic service).

Mr. Hall is or has been a member of a variety of clubs and other organizations, such as the Pulaski Club, the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg, the American Alpine Club, where he served on the Mountaineering Fellowship Grants Committee, the National Steeplechase Association, the Virginia Steeplechase Association, the Sierra Club, the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, the Churchill Society, the Nature Conservancy, Trout Unlimited, and the Williamsburg Land Conservancy.

When not engaged in the practice of law, Mr. Hall pursues his interest in fly fishing, mountaineering, steeplechase horse racing, and other sporting activities.

Legal Assistant: Judith A. Stewart

Judith A. Stewart is a veteran legal assistant and secretary. Having begun her career in 1960, she has served as a legal secretary for a large law firm in Kansas, and a number of law firms in Williamsburg, Virginia. Mrs. Stewart assists Mr. Hall with secretarial duties, the preparation of legal documents, and the management of the firm's office. Mrs. Stewart has worked with Mr. Hall since 1993.
